ADL Foundation Mobility Aids for the Uninsured Does It Again!
Joella Seth (above, center) happily receives an electric wheelchair from Alvin LeMar, Founder and Director of the ADL Foundation Mobility Aids for the Uninsured. Joella, who is a resident at Casa Arena Blanca, used to spend most of her time in her room watching TV, but with the proper mobility aid now enjoys going to the rec room with the other residents. Standing behind Alvin and Joella are employees from Choice Medical Supply who assisted with delivery of the chair.

Alvin D. LeMar founded the ADL Foundation Mobility Aids for the Uninsured in November of 2002. The purpose of the foundation is to provide mobility aids, nationally, free of charge to those who cannot afford them.

The disabled people we serve are not always uninsured. There are times when health insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid do not cover the proper mobility aid. We also serve veterans whose disability is not service related and therefore not covered.

A mobility aid can be something as simple as a cane or shower chair; however, more often we receive requests for wheelchairs and scooters.

Those in need may apply to our foundation in several ways; by email, letter, phone, or by referral from a physician or social services agency.  Upon receiving the request, financial information and a physician’s prescription are reviewed and eligibility is determined.  At that point, the eligible applicant is put on a recipient waiting list and we begin the work of acquiring the appropriate mobility aid.

In the beginning, we planned to fund ourselves through donations from individuals, organizations, and churches as well as grants from corporations and foundations.  We began to realize that although this can be done, it would be wise to develop alternate streams of income.  After research, we settled on two projects we felt will be beneficial to our cause.  At this point, we would like to share the online golf tournament with you and ask for your support.

Sincerely, Alvin D. LeMar
