John is walking in the trap. He trips and his club hits the sand. What is the ruling?
if he trips or unintentionally drops his club in the sand then there is no penalty incurred. however if he accidently touches the sand as he is walking up to his ball then there is a penalty incurred even if his ball is 20 ft away. it is only if dropped or if to catch oneself from falling. this happened to john daly a few years ago when he dropped his club in the trap near his ball. he left it there had a rules official come over and everyone agreed it just slipped from his hand and there was no penalty incurred
